Victoria Skirpa:
Fine Art

Rabblefish -- sculpture by Victoria SkirpaVictoria Skirpa's figurative fine art glass-work confronts and explores the tension in attraction and repulsion; the grotesque is a point of inquiry. Her glass-work is hollow, giving access to an outside and an inside The piece draws the viewer inside, to the interior caverns. By investigating cavernous shapes, contrasting surfaces of rough and smooth, and hollows of relationally negative and positive space, Victoria creates works that evoke a sense of age while retaining a contemporary style. Often glass is used for its transparency and brightness. Victoria chooses to subvert this notion, and instead call attention to the stone-like nature of glass, and a surface that is luminous.

Victoria’s metalwork tends to evoke futuristic universes, beings, and insects. She often seeks a playful relationship with work, evocative of feminine iconography and sexual innuendo. However, a continual thread remains: the relationship of forms to living bodies - animal, human, and insect.

Victoria's fine art pieces can be purchased or commissioned through her Studio 106, in Oakland, California.
